Egyptians using their mobile phones to communicate, take pictures, record and speak with peers about the recent protests in Cairo. ©Demotix / Sallie Pisch Dear Activist, This Saturday, 12 February, we will be wearing the colours of the Egyptian flag – red, white and black. These colours will be in squares and meeting places all over the world as thousands of us plan to stand in solidarity and defiance with Egyptians in Tahrir Square in Cairo and everyone else demanding their rights in the wider Middle East and North Africa. No matter which part of the world you are in you can join the Global Day of Action. No matter how small your act you can show your solidarity. We have some exciting ideas for things to do on 12 February 2011: 1) Sign our web petition addressed to Egyptian authorities here. 2) You can join our online solidarity event on Facebook. 3) Change your Facebook profile picture with an image of the Egyptian flag. 4) Take a picture of yourself or in a group holding a placard which says I stand in solidarity with the people of Egypt. Write your name and country at the bottom of the placard. Post these pictures on our Facebook event page or Note for photo activists: If you are sending photos to the Flickr account, make sure you send each photo in a separate email, and put your name, city and country in the subject line and the words I stand in solidarity with the people of Egypt in the body of the email. Attach the photo to the email and send to who05filled+public@photos.flickr.com Join the growing movement of people standing up for their rights! In solidarity, Online Communities team Alaphia, Buddha, El-Mutamid and Jeremy |
